These guys were all lined up, rooting in the sand for something tasty.

This one just crushes me because of the spot of sand on her nose.

For shame, I haven’t posted a single photo from the Costa Rica trip. These are a pair of young crab-eating raccoons I caught running along the beach of Manuel Antonio National Park. So cute.

Summer has taken a turn for the dreary and apparently I’m following suit. Mt. Rainier National Park.

Taken at the end of the last pier before the Olympic Sculpture Park, just north of downtown Seattle. This is the type of photo I never get tired of taking. A touch abstract, playing with light and using interesting lines…always the lines.

Taken on the opposite side of the ridge and not quite as high up as yesterday’s photo. This is taken really wide, which creates a great effect with the ridge’s shadow across the bottom of the frame, but in this case I think limits the grandeur of the scene.

A shot I took last summer north of Indian Bar, just below Panhandle Gap in Mt. Rainier National Park. I shot it in black and white, but gave it a blue tint in post process (which I don’t usually do) to give it a bit more contrast & pop.

I cranked up the ISO on this shot to try and give it some texture and drama. Oh, and also so I could handhold a shot at 300mm.

Shot from near the top of Old Snowy Mountain, nearly 8000 feet. Mt. Rainier is in the distance on the right, and on the left you can see a sliver of the gorgeously teal Goat Lake.

This shot was taken from a slightly different vantage point. Here we’re looking south toward Ive’s Peak and Gilbert Peak with the McCall Glacier in the foreground, and the Conrad Glacier in the distance.

Taken from near the top of the Goat Rocks, on Old Snowy Mountain late last summer. The extra blue sky was managed with a circular polarizer.

Ive’s and Gilbert Peaks make up the high points of the spine that we see in this shot. The big hunk of snow in the foreground is the McCall Glacier.

This get’s me excited for hiking next week.

This was shot at Packwood, quite a while ago. The feathers were dropped on the ground in a pretty close radius, and I swooped them up onto the deck boards for a photo-op.

Have you ever tried to take a macro shot of a bee in flight…and get it in focus? It’s crazy, crazy difficult let me tell you. This was the only good frame of about 50 I shot of this bee. I like the fact that you can clearly see the head, antenna, and the cache of pollen under the abdomen.

I have great respect for anyone that shoots insects on a regular basis.

This weekend I snapped this near a short salmon-viewing hike south of the Lake Cle Elum dam. It’s too bad the bridge was blocked off…it would have been nice to get a view of the river from above.
